Cafe Plume is a modern take on your typical third wave coffee shop. It’s clean, bright, and open with plenty of seating. There’s art lining the exposed-brick wall (which you can buy), and some magazines lining the adjacent wall for you to read. The cafe is spacious enough, with quiet indie rock playing in the background. Loud enough to encourage conversation, but not disturbingly so. There were quite a few people studying and they didn’t seem bothered by the volume levels at all (though you can always bring headphones).
They have some baked goods, which consist of some croissants and cookies that I later regretted not ordering (white chocolate chip & blueberry is right up my alley). Instead, I opted for their “Plume Bagel” which is a sesame seed bagel garnished with cream cheese, prosciutto, spinach, tomato, and a drizzle of olive oil. Normally, I wouldn’t order this, but it was their signature dish and I review things I guess, so I figured ‘why not?’. Turns out it was actually delicious. Would recommend.
To go with the bagel I had a double espresso allongé. It was damn good. Like really good. Afterwards I had a regular drip coffee, but unlike some shops, here you don’t have a choice of bean. It wasn’t a pour-over, just a regular drip. I had Verve’s ‘La Fortuna’, a light roast from Santa Barbara that was really fruity, and not my taste.
The space is easy-going, the food is good and the espresso is even better. If you’re looking for a place to study or hang out, you can’t go wrong with Plume- as long as you like espresso based drinks over filter.
