(Latte Macchiato Pod)
Great news for my loyal, coffee-loving readers! I am hosting a giveaway contest for Nescafe’s Dolce Gusto Genio 2 pod machine!
I accepted an invitation by Nescafe to partner with them for this contest giveaway and I’m super excited to share that news with all of you! Though I haven’t talked about home brewing on my blog yet, I do plan on including guides to different types of home coffee brewing methods so stay tuned for that. Right now, however, I’d like to share my impressions on Nescafe’s coffee pod machine so you can get an idea of the product.
The Dolce Gusto Genio is a compact pod machine, ideal for apartments ( It also reminds me of smaller version of Baymax from Big Hero 6). With a height of only 11.3″ and width of 6.3″, it can pretty much fit anywhere in your kitchen space. At the same time, the fact that it is small means you can only do one serving at a time. My favourite feature is the lever that you use to control the coffee brews because the switch is soft and does not make a hard, plastic click sound (which can make it sound cheap). Then, depending on what you plan to brew, the pods show you the level of intensity to set the machine.
Coffee wise, I was pleasantly surprised as I wasn’t expecting much from a pod machine. I’m very particular with my coffee, as is what happens when you have the luxury to taste something multiple times in different places over an extended period of time. Your palate eventually grows more sensitive to nuances and you won’t be able to help yourself from differentiating what you consider good or bad tasting. Granted, it won’t be as good as barista served coffee but at the same time, not everyone can afford to buy coffee everyday, be conveniently located, or have the time. The Genio is a great compromise to any of those points.
I liked the pure espresso shots best; the Espresso, Americano and Lungo pods with the Lungo as my number one pick. There was enough richness, boldness, and acidity; the after taste was satisfying on the tongue. Visually, I thought the cremas were a great colour. I even used an espresso shot to make an an affogato at home with vanilla ice cream. For those who do love flavouring or milk options in their coffee, Dolce Gusto provides choices like the Cappuccino, Caramel Latte Macchiato and Chococino. All in all, a great quality to affordability ratio and convenient for your home.
