H8S Bar a Cafe

Bar a Cafe H8S’s location makes it easily the most tranquil coffee shop I’ve had the pleasure to cover so far. Being along the Lachine Canal, the atmosphere has a village-like friendliness. If you’re lucky and get one of the seats outside, you can view the canal and park while sipping on their Phil & Sebastian roast. To be fair, the day I visited H8S, I was still pretty sick so I couldn’t taste the coffee in its completely fullness, but I generally enjoyed it and it was confirmed by my boyfriend as well (who couldn’t care less about anything more than Timmy’s years ago but has developed quite a palette for quality coffee thanks to yours truly). Of course, the milk foam texture could have been better and the espresso shot pulled was weak but from what I know, they have a great teacher so I’m sure their progress will be seen shortly. Having been open just a little over a month, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Those with a sweet tooth would be glad to hear that they have quite a display of Rustique baked goods. They have a variety of small single serving tarts as well as whole pies for you to take home to the family. We tried the lemon square and the chocolate hazelnut square. I preferred the chocolate hazelnut more because of the depth of flavours and the consistency was more to my liking. People-wise, the clientele is very nice and staff equally so.

Finally, there aren’t that many tables and space is limited so studying or working is not recommended. The place is quiet though so solo reading or meeting up with a friend is definitely doable. As for the location, unless you live in Lachine or have a car, getting to H8S can be dreary. All in all, cute coffee shop but nothing that stands out against the numerous coffee shops opening in Montreal these days. However, if you’re looking for a change in scenery, some good baked goods and decent coffee, H8S is great for you.

Hi- very nice blog. It’s “Phil & Sebastian.” Not “Sebastien.” Merci.
