I guess the best way I can describe my impression of L’Artist Affamé is that it is intimate, engaging and absolutely delicious. I say intimate because every time I’ve visited, there is always a client sitting at the bar having a thoughtful conversation with Jesse (AA’s owner and barista), myself included.
The coffee is always great, whether I order a cappucino or a cortado. AA alternates between several coffee bean roasts in favour of a more seasonal approach (much like restaurants with seasonal menus). Jesse is also always open to give suggestions and engage with his clients to try new roasts/types of coffees. Many independent coffee shops claim that their mission is to develop Montreal’s coffee palette but I believe AA is one of the few that really make an effort to teach and guide.
With soft flavourful homemade cookies and a close-by laundromat (how much homier can you feel?), everyone should give l’Artist Affamé a try.
